The wait for the much-anticipated Apple’s mainstream device, iPhone 6, is going to be over in a week as Apple has sent invitations to the media to a “special event” in its hometown of Cupertino, California, on Sep 9. Apple is speculated to reveal its much-talked iWatch at the event also.

The launch date declared by Apple had been widely reported. Apple was rumored to come up with two variants this time, a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch model for iPhones, a tactic presumably aimed by the success of bigger devices by opponent Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.

Apple has a habit of showcasing its flagship devices in its September events. The iPhone segment posts nearly 50 percent of its business and is getting more significance as the tablet shipments hikes. The company that gave new dimensions to the smartphone industry has not produced a new product since the iPad back in 2010. Apple boss Tim Cook has vowed to bring fresh product range for 2014. Software chief Eddy Cue has rendered Apple’s present product pipeline the best he’s experienced in yonks.

However, it’s still out of considerations whether the company has something more to show off other than these two products. Earlier buzz claimed that the upcoming iPhones will feature “sapphire” display glass which is termed to be more scratch-proof. Besides this, a number of suppliers have told Reuters about issues with the Sapphire screen production which might result in the delay of devices.

Other than the innovative hardware attributes, the next generation of iPhones will be equipped with new software features like HomeKit, an app which will assist in managing connected devices within the home, along with HealthKit, a central storehouse for health information and services.
