Cricket world had shocking news when it was learnt that New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder was in coma. He was hospitalized after being assaulted in Merivale which is Christchurch’s suburb. He is presently admitted in ICU due to fractured skull. According to police, there were two attacks on the cricketer. The first one took place at 12.30 am when Ryder was with his friends outside bar when they had quarrel with at least two people. Later, the persons went towards nearby McDonalds outlet where other players were purchasing food. The brawl took place at the McDonalds car parking entrance.
According to hospital staff, Ryder is seriously injured as he had head injuries. Meanwhile, police is investigating the incident by viewing the CCTV footage. However, the attackers have not been identified yet. Investigations from witnesses have also been conducted to know the reason of incident. Wellington cricket’s chief executive Peter Clinton has confirmed to police and media that Ryder did not breach the contract by going to the bar and none of the violations of contract took place that night. Cricket New Zealand chief executive David White also expressed his grief at the incident and expressed his solidarity with Ryder’s family.

Delhi Daredevils’ director TA Sekar was shocked at the incident who was looking forward to the arrival of his player from New Zealand. He said that the team would be looking for a new replacement.
Ryder had taken sabbatical from international cricket last year and was omitted from New Zealand’s ODI team after breaking team rules regarding drinking and alcohol in the past.
