It was a display of batting dominance by Chennai Super Kings as they routed Kings XI Punjab by 10 wickets. Mike Hussey and Vijay ensured that the total of 138 runs given by the opponents looks like a walk in the park. Mike Hussey was at his vintage best as he remained unbeaten on 86 runs and hammered Punjab bowlers all around the ground. The two teams looked no match for each other as the affair was more of a one sided.
The match was played in the home ground of Kings XI Punjab. The toss was won by CSK skipper MS Dhoni who chose to field. Punjab opening batsman and skipper Adam Gilchrist started in his traditional manner, entertaining the home crowd. But just like the last game, he fell down on 9 runs. David Hussey, the younger brother of Michael Hussey, came in and settled early on with Gurkeerat Singh. Both developed 87 runs partnership to add the score to 106 runs for the loss of just one wicket. However, the decline started when Hussey was caught out on Ashwin’s delivery. He scored 41 runs. Soon, Gurkeerat was also back to the pavilion as he top edged a delivery to Dirk Nannes when attempting to sweep. The batting line up of Kings XI did not have enough depth to propel the score to a decent and defendable total. The team scored only 32 runs in the last 7 overs and lost all the remaining wickets, posing a total of 138 runs.
In order to defend the total successfully, Punjab needed to take wickets as curtailing runs was never a winning strategy against a team with strong and deep batting line up. Maybe, a self destruction by the CSK batsmen could have helped the home team. However, nothing like that happened and Michael Hussey and Vijay made sure that the target is met without any fall of wickets. Both punished the bowlers and won the second win for CSK. It was second consecutive loss to Kings XI Punjab. The score board is as follows:
Chennai Super Kings 139 for 0 (M Hussey 86*, Vijay 50*) beat Kings XI Punjab 138 (D Hussey 41, Bravo 3-27) by ten wickets
