Data services in Pakistan saw a hike of 25% in 2014


The recent figures from telecom industry indicate a robust growth in the data market in Pakistan. The statistics depicts that data income of cellular operators in Pakistan have seen a massive hike of 25% during Fiscal Year 2014, thus suggesting that telcos in Pakistan are right on the track to gain momentum in this lucrative market.

Overall revenues recorded from data services in the country were Rs. 90 billion, with a strong growth rate of 24.6%, which is nearly twice we had of 11.66% for the FY2013.

The majority of data profits of mobile phone segment have seen a rise of 47.4%, touching the Rs. 47 billion mark during FY2014. This is an encouraging sign in the recent arrival of 3G/4G facilities services in Pakistan and indicates that the usage of internet and data services on the cellular phones is gaining popularity every now and then.

With such a healthy balance sheet in hands, it’s obvious that CMOs are going to have more smooth revenue streams in the coming future.

On the whole, the data profits in entire telecom revenues have increased to 19.3% of the market share during FY2014 in contrast to the 16.4% back in 2013.

The cellular data income share has also grown to 10.1% from 7.3% respectively.

The data profit trends are anticipated to take further pace in the coming days with an ever-growing usage of portable devices such as smart phones, iPads and laptops and an uptake of Over the Top (OTT) services, thus relinquishing conventional voice communication.
