Djokovic beats Tsonga ; Del Potro Battles Past Murray


Reigning World Number 1 and two time BNP Paribas Open champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia eased past World Number 8 Jo Wilfried Tsonga of France in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 to reach the semi final at the Californian desert. The win was his 22nd consecutive match victory and is unbeaten in 2013. His last loss came at the hands of Sam Querrey of America in Paris BNP Paribas Masters last year. He has won Australian Open and Dubai duty free tournaments this year. He is a winner of 13 masters 1000 titles. In the semi final, Djokovic will play Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina who defeated World Number 3 Andy Murray of Britain. he has an 8-2 head-to-head record.


Del Potro lost the first set on tie break. However, in the second set, he got a crucial break early on in first game. He then went on to serve out the second set to force the match to a decider. In the third set, Del Potro broke Murray twice to seal the deal and won just the second time against the Brit. The final score was 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-1. In 2013, Del Potro has won maiden title in Rotterdam at ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.

Heading into semi final, Djokovic has 8-2 head to head in his favour against Del Potro. The other semi final will be played between Nadal and Berdych.
