The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has inked an agreement with the country’s premier telecom services provider PTCL for the provision of (EVO) broadband devices to deserving and talented students in the name of Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme.
A plethora of high-ups from both sides including Mr. Anwar Amjad, Director General (IT) HEC and Mr. Muhammad Basharat Qureshi, Executive Vice President (Corporate Sales) PTCL signed the agreement. Mr. Walid Irshad, CEO and President, PTCL and Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman HEC attended the signing the ceremony.
Under this new deal, HEC and PTCL will develop and define a collaborative platform which will offer state-of-the-art broadband EVO Internet Services to the HEC recommended students with subsidized monthly charges which are claimed to be 20 percent off.
HEC is going to buy a lump sum of 100,000 EVO devices and will pay the charges as applicable in the agreement. The provision of EVO devices shall be made to HEC in batches in duration of 90 days, meanwhile, same will be offered to all talented universities/ institutes students by PTCL.
PTCL also mentioned that it will be compelled to filter all those devices which are subjected to resold or made for commercial purchase in the open market. PTCL will activate the device in a 3 days deadline as soon as students ask for an activation request at PTCL customer centres.
Initially, the EVO will operate on default package, meanwhile, at the expense of 20 percent discount rates; the device can be switched to any other desired package after the completion of one month usage.
Mr. Walid Irshad, President, PTCL spoke on this occasion as the new agreement between the two prime entities of the country will boost the vision of students of Pakistani universities and urge them to strive for excellence in their respective fields with the provision of latest technology at their door steps.
He also extended his support for HEC by mentioning that PTCL will always give its helping hand whenever needed to HEC in order to take such fruitful initiatives. He announced that PTCL will offer three (03) months free broadband facility with unlimited downloads under this deal with HEC to the students.
