A last minute goal by PSG Blaise Matuidi helped the hosts seal a draw against Spanish giants Barcelona in the quarter final of the UEFA champions league. The Spanish side was leading 2-1 when they suffered an equalizer to eliminate the lead.
Right from the start, it was Barcelona which had the possession of the ball most of the time, although the French league leader had marked Messi very well for the initial 30 minutes. As a result, the match was balanced in the first half. However, Messi again showed his class and found a way to beat the defence line of opposition as Barcelona was rewarded with an early goal. It was in the 39th minutes of the first half when Dani Alves superb loft was picked out by Messi to score past the goal keeper Salvatore Sirigu. It was Messi’s 59th Champions League goal. Messi attempted another shot on target but missed the cross bar. Soon, he had to leave the field for a treatment as he suffered a knee injury just before the half time. He came back for sometime but then missed the entire second half as hamstring problem also surfaced. Messi was replced by Tito Vilanova and Fabregas.
In the second half, PSG had a chance to equalize when Ezequiel Lavezzi missed from the danger area. Javier Pastore also had a chance to score but Barcelona keeper Valdes did well to save. Meanwhile, Alexis Sanchez missed an opportunity to increase the lead when he missed the shot in 63rd minute. In the 79th minute, the deadlock for PSG was broken and Ibrahimovic scored the equalizer. Barcelona again took the lead as Xavi scored the goal on penalty. At that time, it seemed that victory is destined for Barcelona. However in the final minutes, Matuidireceived the header from Ibrahimovic and struck the equalizer as the ball deflected from Marc Barta’s leg.
PSG’s defenders Thiago Silva was awarded the man of the match. The task for PSG at the second leg of the quarter final is huge as they have suffered two home goals.
