LG grabbed 67% of smart watch display market share

The arrival of Smartphones on the global arena has opened its door for tech firms to showcase their innovation and mastery in this lucrative sector. Along with this, the new frontier of wearable technology devices is gaining popularity on the global scale.

The latest report published by market research watchdog DisplaySearch reveals that, interestingly enough, LG hold the throne in worldwide smartwatch display market by a healthy share in its bag. Korean consumer electronics company LG, is leading the market as far as shares and revenues yielded from the watch screen units are concerned. LG’s latest agreement for the Apple Watch apparently gives the firm a phenomenal boost in this run.

As per DisplaySearch, LG grabbed an overall market share of 67% by sales and generated 91% of the market share in revenues. In a total count of $240 million smartwatch display market, Korean giant Samsung empowers merely 3.1% percent of the market share with Japan Display and Futaba catching up fast with 2.4% and 1.8% share market respectively. When we look at these figures, LG seems to be far ahead in the competition from its rivals.

On the whole, LG has shipped nearly 8 million display unit, which were sold to samrtwatch makers in abundance. Japan display is second in command with 1.4 million units, Futaba with 1.12 million units and Sharp Display accounts for 900,000 unit shipments globally.

LG is flying high due to its enormous deal with US handset heavyweight Apple, which hired it for Watch screen shipments. At present, LG is the only supplier for the Apple Watch, irrespective of the supply issues between the two tech companies. LG is also the biggest producer of Android Wear smartwatches currently.
