Murray Materializes Deal with Globosport ; Tennis IPL a Likely Event

We all have heard about IPL which is a domestic cricket event played in India. However, IPL now may also be a term in tennis as well. Tennis IPL is what is being planned by Globosport which is looked after by Indian tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi. The company has materialized a deal with Andy Murray’s management firm called ‘Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment’. Both are planning to organize a tennis event similar to cricket’s domestic tournament, the IPL which features cricket stars from all over the world.

Similar to the IPL and other domestic leagues, tennis IPL will have teams headed by tennis champions like Nadal, Federer, Murray, Djokovic, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka etc. The players will be selected by auction and the teams will be playing for prize money worth $5million (£3.26 mil). The likely time period when the event will take place would be at the end of ATP calendar year in November and December. Mahesh Bhupathi had tried to persuade the top players to make them available for the event. The venues are planned to be in China and India that have huge population and have a lot of tennis fans.

With such huge prize money involved, it is expected that most of the players will show their support for the event. The Australian Open director Craig Tiley expressed his cooperation and support to the event as it would improve the financial condition of the players. The event will increase the number of tennis fans around the world and will create more global interest in the sport.
