Latest resources have claimed that the IT and Telecom Ministry and the PTA have planned to organize the next generation license award event for the successful operators on the 17th of this month.
This license award ceremony was earlier proposed to take place on the 10th of May, but due to the non-payment of remaining license fees from winning operators, it faced a delay.
Users are aware that three operators namely Ufone, Telenor and Mobilink got 3G licenses whereas Zong managed to acquire 3G as well as 4G license in this recent auction ceremony.
In this regard, FBR had ordered PTA to get 10% WHT beside basic license cost. To this plan, network operators reject this surplus tax and say that PTA must have mentioned it in the IM of next generation licenses.
Operators invested a massive pile of cash in this recent auction process. Mobilink got its 3G license for $ 30.9 million whereas Ufone and Telenor settled to give $ 14.75 million each for its 3G license. Zong spent some $51.6 million to get both 3G and a 4G license.
The cellular networks, as per the IM instructions issued by the regulator, are entitled to submit their remaining license dues prior to 22nd of May otherwise they will face a penalty.
Internal sources from the telecom sector anticipate that mobile networks are going to pay their fees before the 17th of this month to get their concerned next generation licenses.
An auspicious license award ceremony is going to be held on the World Telecom day which will see the Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif as the chief guest.
After that ceremony, when all the NGMS license winners claim their license, they are going to launch the next generation spectrum services all across the Pakistan. At present, Ufone, Telenor and Mobilink are offering free 3G facility in selected parts of the country.
