PTCL CEO Walid Irshaid appointed as SAMENA vice chairman

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) CEO and President , Mr Walid Irshaid has been elected as SAMENA Telecommunications Council new vice chairman of SAMENA board of directors. Mr Irshaid overtakes Mr Riad Bahsoun of Telecommunications Information Technology (TIT).

The SAMENA board of directors now on whole comprises of 11 major regional operators which includes PTCL, Saudi Telecom Group, Batelco Group, Omantel Group, Etisalat Group, Qtel Group, Orange-Jordan Telecom Group, Turk Telekom Group, Viva Kuwait, and Bravo.

Currently, Tom Wilson is the Chief Executive and Executive Managing Director of SAMENA. He congratulated Mr Walid Irshaid’s election to lead the board of directors. Sheikh Mohamed bin Isa Al Khalifa, who is Group CEO of Batelco Group is chairman of SAMENA.

CEO and President PTCL, Mr Irshaid on the occasion said that SAMENA is making multiple efforts in ICT that is of great interest to our operator membership. Mr Irshaid’s said that It is a great honour for him to act as SAMENA’s vice chairman esteemed position.

He said that thisis a new honour for PTCL and it directly reflects SAMENA’s recognition of PTCL’s front line role in leading and fostering the telecommunications revolution in Asia.

Mr Irshaid as vice chairman of SAMENA,  will help SAMENA’s to further improve its relationship-building efforts with the policy circles in SAMENA region.

As SAMENA Vice Chairman, and CEO PTCL it is a great oppertunity for PTCL to further expand its outreach not only to regional but global players thus, putting Pakistan Telecom firmly on international map as a leading global telecom market player, said Mr Irshaid.

Mr Irshaid is a renowned communications technology (ICT) expert with more than 30 years of telecom professional experience in South Asia, Middle East, and North Africaregions. He has a working experience in Emirates Telecom (Etisalat), Paltel (Palestine), Datanet (Lebanon), and FLAG (Middle East and North Africa).
