Tablet sales rose by 64.2 percent to touch 76.3 million units


Canalys, a market research group has recently reported that the worldwide PC market rose by 17.9 percent, comprising of tablets that accounts for that entire boost. The tablet sales rose by 64.2 percent to touch the 76.3 million units mark annually. The research company also claimed that tablets now consist of almost half of the PC unit shipments.

Tablets comprised of 48.3 percent of entire PC shipments, whereas non-tablet PCs were slashed by 6.9 percent for the last year, with worldwide decline, the company disclosed.

Apple’s iPad had more than 26 million tablet shipments or an estimated third of all tablets shipped. Apple shipped more than 30.9 million computers including Macs.

Canalys also mentioned that Apple is also dominating the Chinese market with a massive 38.3 percent market share of tablet sales in its local market, where low-end substitute devices are easily accessible.

“But contest is escalating and Android tablets are becoming inexpensive, which in return will give a tough time to Apple’s share in this ongoing year,” Canalys highlighted.

Apart from that, Apple’s market share of traditional PC notebooks has been mounting in unit share despite the fact that the much inexpensive tablets are easily provided by each other PC vendor.

Apple’s iPhone share market is also beefing up in contrast to the reality that Average Selling Prices of rivals’ smartphones are much reduced.

IDC report reveals that the ASP of all devices other than iPhones, it enlists a “smartphone” is now available for almost $270. Apple’s iPhone ASP is a whopping $635, over double of that price.
