Tomic to face Murray; Nieminen, Bolleli Advances


Bernard Tomic of Australia defeated Frenchman Marc Gicquel 7-5, 7-6(3) to reach the second round of ATP Masters 1000 event at Miami. He will next play World number 3 Andy Murray of Britain. In another match, Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen lost the first set but came back strongly to win his first round clash against former World number 3 David Nalbandian of Argentina 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. David Goffin o Belgium defeated Netherland’s Robin Haase 7-6, 3-6, 6-1. Viktor Troicki of Serbia defeated Pablo Andujar of Spain 6-2, 6-3 to set a second round clash against World Number 8 Jo Wilfried Tsonga of France. Ivan Dodig of Croatia defeated Lukas Lacko of Slovakia 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.


Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan was the upset of the day as he was defeated in straight sets by Daniel Gimeno Traver of Spain. The score was 6-2, 6-4.Tatsuma Ito of Japan played well against Olivier Rochus of Belgium by winning the first set 6-4. But he was forced to retire due to injury in the third set when trailing 1-3. Rochus will play Yen Hsun Lu in the second round who defeated Robby Ginepri of America 7-5, 6-1. Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil had to fight for his win against Daniel Brands. He advanced 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Simone Bolelli of Italy defeated Canadian Jesse Levine 4-6, 6-3, 7-6. Santiago Giraldo of Colombia defeated American wild card Rhyne Williams 6-2, 6-4.

World Number 1 and top seed Novak Djoovic will be in action on Friday.
